What is the significance of having a fiduciary look after your assets?
A fiduciary is legally required to act only in the best interest of their client — and is defined as a person in a position of authority whom the law obligates to act solely on behalf of the person he or she represents. Examples of fiduciaries are registered investment advisors, executors, trustees, guardians, and directors and officers of corporations. Fiduciaries are not permitted to seek personal benefit from their transactions that take place within the accounts of those they represent, and must disclose all conflicts of interest. Do all financial advisors serve their clients in the role of a fiduciary? The answer is, "No."
